Create Your Own Success
1 Comment | Posted by Joe Lavelle in Career Acceleration, Great Ideas, Hard Work
As I share in both my upcoming book and my personal coaching sessions, I am a big believer in the idea that a great work ethic and some professional creativity will quickly set you apart in your field. What can you offer that will fill a void with consumers or clients and are you invested enough in your own success to make it happen? While reading through business articles over the weekend, I came across a great example of someone who found a new niche in a very crowded market. Her story should serve as an inspiration to anyone who is still looking for professional meaning and satisfaction.
Lauren Luke is a 27-year-old single mother who lives in England. Despising her job as a taxi dispatcher, Luke decided to try selling cosmetics through eBay instead. She was not satisfied to place her product on the internet and simply wait and see what might happen. Instead, Luke determined a creative way to reach an audience that would be interested in her product. She began producing makeup tutorial videos with a webcam and the lighting in her bedroom and then posting them on YouTube. Women were able to relate to her authentic, friendly style and she became a sensation. Her videos now have more than 50 million views and 240,000 subscribers in 70 countries. Luke now has her own makeup line, a beauty column in The Guardian, and a book deal.
If you are not satisfied with your current job and believe you have more to offer, what are you waiting for? Lauren Luke is just one example of the thousands of entrepreneurs who has taken a simple idea and reached dazzling heights of success. She never would have found the global recognition that she now enjoys if she had waited for someone to come along and make her a star. Instead, Lauren Luke is her own best advocate. She made her success happen. Let the same be said for you.

Love hearing these stories. It just proves that if we put our minds to something, nothing will stop us from getting where we want to be!
