Are You a “Born” Leader?

I am sure we have all heard someone say, “He’s a born leader!”  When that statement is made, the observer is usually referring to a person’s ability to get other excited about an idea, accept challenges with energy and confidence, or develop a successful business plan.  However, I wonder if you have ever stopped to think about the whether our leaders really are “born” that way.  The nature versus nurture debate has entered the world of entrepreneurship, and several new studies show that a person’s genes may impact their ability to be successful in the business world.

A recent study conducted at Case Western Reserve University, using 870 pairs of identical twins and 857 pairs of same-sex fraternal twins, reached the conclusion that entrepreneurs are 40% born and 60% made.  If this is accurate, a large proportion of your entrepreneurial potential is determined from the moment you are conceived.  Scientists at Cambridge University have gone even further in asserting that an “entrepreneur drug” might be in our future.  What do you think?  Would you take a pill that would improve your body’s ability to function as an entrepreneur?

Critics worry that pinning the ability to be an entrepreneur on DNA will prevent people who are not genetically inclined to avoid pursuing their professional dreams.  There is evidence to show that students who are exposed to concepts of entrepreneurship in their coursework are more likely to get involved in the business world, regardless of what was naturally donated by mom and dad.

What are your thoughts on this controversial topic?  Has your experience shown you that some people are genetically predisposed to being a leader in the business world?

Here’s my personal assertion!  Whether or not you were born with the supposed entrepreneur gene, I believe I can help you succeed in business.  My new book, Act As If You Were Impossible to Fail, provides a lot of valuable information that will help you accelerate in your chosen field and get that promotion you have been wanting.
