Exercise your body and mind

If I had to guess, I would assume that at least half of you reading this included something to the effect of “lose weight,” “go to the gym four times a week,” or “exercise before work” on your list of New Year’s resolutions.  With almost a month now under your ever-tightening belt, I hope that you are having great success sticking with your goals.  I would like to offer one more incentive for you to keep up any new fitness plan you have been trying.  Did you know that exercising can help to accelerate your career?

I regularly coach my team and coaching clients on the importance of an active lifestyle in which they are always learning.  Just get out there and experience all that this world has to offer!  In addition to making for a full and happy existence, constantly challenging your mind, body, and spirit in new ways will put you in a better position to achieve your professional goals.

The specific merits of physical exercise cannot be overlooked.  Moving your body helps to improve brain function and memory.  Don’t you want to be the one at the next board meeting who is able to tell the CEO about every person you met at a recent networking event or who can explain a new strategy for bringing in customers without stumbling over a lot of “uhhs” and “umms.”  Well, then exercise!  Get your heart pumping, your blood flow up, and your brain buzzing with positive energy!

What are you doing to get active in 2010?  Registering for your first 5K?  Stopping at the gym instead of happy hour after work?  Playing with the kids in the backyard on the weekends?  Take your pick and go for it!  Your body and your boss will thank you.
