I am certain that everyone who is reading this blog post spends every moment in the office alert and ready to tackle any task put before them.  But, maybe you can pass this list along to your friends who may not be as productive or committed to career acceleration as you.

There may be moments, usually around 2:00pm, when a temptation arises to bow your head ever closer to the keyboard on your desk and close your eyes for a few precious moments.  If you succumb to the desire to rest, and your supervisor happens to walk by at this inopportune moment, do you have a good excuse at the ready?

I found a website that offers an entire category of office humor and has posted a list of the top ten excuses you can offer if you fall asleep during the work day.  A few of my favorites included:

“They told me at the blood bank this might happen.”

“Whew!  I guess I left the top off the white-out!  You probably got here just in time!”

“I wasn’t sleeping . . . I was meditating on the mission statement and envisioning a new paradigm.”

“This is just a 15-minute power nap like they raved about in that time management course you sent the entire office to last week.”

pause for a few moments and then, “Amen!”

If you have ever been guilty of falling asleep at work and you were left speechless in the face of your boss’ unhappy glare . . . you’re welcome!  You are now ready for next time.  But, I imagine that some of you can do even better than the examples listed above.

What suggestions do you have to add to our list of excuses for falling asleep at work?  Share your ideas in the Comments section below and let’s see who has the most effective comeback.  We promise not to tell your boss!
